Real Live Multi-Colored Peeps on the Daily Commute + Peep Widget On Apple's Top 50 + The End
So, I'm on my way to work this morning and, as I do every morning at Mariatorget subway station, I receive a copy of City (a free daily newspaper) from the nice old man standing just outside the station, then I take a copy of the other free paper Metro and go down to the platform. Four stations later I am done with City, seriously there is nary a single article worth reading, and they seem to have taken a focus on fashion lately. Metro I read on the 15 minute bus ride, and I was doing so when I stumbled on something rather odd.
I know there have been a lot of Peep articles on here lately, and I apologize for that...this is the last one I promise. Now, today I was in a rather splendid mood, which is uncommon. Why? Because, for reasons beyond science the original Peep Attack widget managed to get into Apple's Top 50 Widget Downloads List. I'm not sure if I'm embarassed or proud of that accomplishment. Originally it was more or less a joke, just sort of an experiment to prove that people actually download useless widgets more than they download widgets that actually do something. The original Peep merely flipped between yellow and purple, but after a couple of requests for more colors - and the fact that people were actually downloading the silly thing - I revamped the original version to 2.0 with 8 flips, and created a Pro version that randomly selects one of 7 colors after being dropped onto the Dashboard. So, there has been a lot of Peep thought of late. So, I was rather surprised to see this in the paper this morning.

Real Live Peeps! - Metro, Stockholm, October 6th, 2005
This was from the daily...err, humor section at the back of Metro. They request readers to submit a funny caption to the picture and then publish it with the picture the next day. Tomorrow I will post what some witty person came up with.
Well, now it is tomorrow and here is the winning entry, make sure you are not in the process of drinking something because you will no doubt spit it out all over the keyboard when you read this.

UPDATE
Here are some images from Apple and MacUpdate:

Honestly, #44!. Although, for reasons unknown, the original Peep Widget has been removed from their website. I don't know if this is because I submitted an update or because Just Born contacted them and asked them to remove it. I'm hoping that it is just being updated by Apple.

I really don't think it needed such a prominent display in the sidebar. The weird thing is that I never submitted it to MacUpdate, I guess they get the info from Apple.
So, that is pretty much it. The short lived reign of the Peep widgets is over. It was pretty interesting while it lasted, all of 5 days. But, I guess our journey has come to an end. Goodbye Peep widgets, Goodbye.

PS. If you are wondering, the total downloads for the Peep Attack widget currently stand at approximately2150.
